Activities
When you are not hunting, fishing, or conducting team meetings leisure activities abound at Cheyenne Ridge Outfitters and Lodge. Sporting Clays, hiking, or relaxing in our indoor pool and spa can all compliment your outdoor or corporate event. Golf is also available on three of the Pierre area courses. Our staff will coordinate leisure activities for your pleasure and entertainment.
Cheyenne Ridge's Sporting Clays course, nestled into the scenic hillside, is available to our guests year around. Safety and the beauty of the natural surroundings come together to make this a great course to refresh your shooting skills or work on that particularly troublesome shot before or after the hunt. Sporting Clays are also a great team building activity and are a favorite with our business clients. Whether you are a novice or an experienced shooter, a Sporting Clays course is just plain -- fun!
If you like to stretch your legs feel free to take a hike throughout our property and enjoy the solitude and beauty of the native prairie.
Local points of interest include the Oahe Dam. The dam is the second largest rolled-earth dam in the world. The massive earthen structure backs up the Missouri River near Pierre, creating Lake Oahe which is over 240 miles long with 2,250 miles of shoreline.
The South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is a 63,000 sq. foot center containing a historical library, archives, museum galleries, public research room and a gift shop. The center is an earth-mounded building with 1,500 tons of dirt on its roof top, blending the building into the landscape.
Those familiar with Stephen Ambrose's book "Undaunted Courage" know the explorers Lewis and Clark visited the Pierre area in 1804 and 1806. Several of their campsites are historical sites.
Triple U Buffalo Ranch featured prominently in the Oscar-winning movie "Dances with Wolves." Major portions of the Kevin Costner epic, including the great plains shots and buffalo scenes, were filmed here. You can visit Fort Sedgewich and see the actual buffalo up close.
