Pheasant & Waterfowl Hunting

Cheyenne Ridge Lodge is located in Pierre, South Dakota, the heart of pheasant country. The Pierre area offers both world-class pheasant and waterfowl hunting. Surrounded by thousands of acres of farm ground and on the edge of a waterfowl refuge, prime hunting territory is only minutes from our door. Acres and acres of well groomed, top notch habitat assure a bountiful hunt.

Both seasoned and novice hunters enjoy hunting with us. We pride ourselves in our ability to tailor every hunt to each hunter's abilities and needs. Pheasant and waterfowl packages are all inclusive. Single occupancy rooms, meals, ammunition, guide fees, license, Sporting Clays course and alcoholic beverages are included. Please see our pricing page for more information.

Pheasant Hunting

Cheyenne Ridge offers our guests acres of native grassland, shelter-belts, CRP, and food plots. Hunters know habitat is the key to large numbers of birds. Land management and farming practices produce top notch habitat. Sunflowers, Milo, switch grass and corn field strips offer excellent pheasant hunting experiences.

The traditional statewide pheasant season opens the third weekend in October and closes at the end of December. However, special Preserve hunts are available through Cheyenne Ridge for those who want an early season pheasant hunt (September/October), before the opener. Our preserves are also open for those who wish to extend their season through January, February, or March.

Waterfowl Hunting

Cheyenne Ridge's lodge overlooks Okobojo Creek Inlet on Lake Oahe. Oahe Lake is one of the primary waterfowl refuges in the central flyway. You will see tens of thousands of migratory waterfowl from the lodge's Great Room as they fly overhead.

Our guided waterfowl hunts feature close-range shooting over decoys. Enjoy early season duck hunts from a variety of private sloughs, marshes and wetlands. These early season hunts focus on teal, gadwalls, pintails, redheads, and mallards. Late season hunts are also available featuring mallards, white-front geese (speckle bellies), Ross, Quill Lake and Canada geese.

Our "North Platte Outpost", on the North Platte River in Nebraska, also presents outstanding late season waterfowl hunting. Please see our Outpost hunting page for more information.

After a satisfying hunt, first-class accommodations await back at the lodge. Our Great Room with its fully stocked bars is a great place to re-live the day's events, play a little poker, or shoot some pool. When it's time to sleep, you large, comfortable room will be ready. Unbeatable hunting and outstanding facilities make Cheyenne Ridge Outfitters and Lodge the place hunters return to year after year.

What a great time we had on our recent hunt. The whole North Platte Outpost experience was a wonderful vehicle for camaraderie, fun and great hunting. While I particulary enjoyed the professional dog work and goose calling, my sons were delighted with the home-cooked meals, breakfast in the blind, and the overflowing cookie jar. Your attention to service, your respect for the hunt, and the quality of your people made it a remarkable experience and a lasting memory for a dad and his two sons.
